In Touch with Our Community and the Local Environment

Kep, eco resort, organic garden

The Vine Retreat’s ethos is to offer exceptional accommodation and service to guests whilst maintaining a strong commitment to ecological and social responsibility. We are committed to maintaining a low carbon footprint. The Vine Retreat is developing an off-grid low-carbon power system, which incorporates a solar powered water heating system and freezer and a bio-diesel powered generator that charges a battery system, providing 20 hours per day of electricity with minimal carbon dioxide emissions. Guests will soon be able to enjoy a salt water filtered swimming pool, where they can relax and cool down on those hot Cambodian afternoons.

We are also engaged in our local community in the Phnom Voar area. The Vine Retreat aims to contribute to local development efforts by providing hospitality and food service training and employment for the local community, supporting the local farmer’s association with agricultural training and high-quality organic seedlings, and providing a reliable market for the organic produce of local farmers. The Vine also promotes local fair trade products by organizing short tours and workshops at the nearby Chamcar Bei Livelihoods Centre for our guests.

At The Vine Retreat we strive to provide our guests with the highest standards of accommodation and service in a truly idyllic and tranquil setting.

The extensive grounds at The Vine are being cultivated into an organic farm, which supplies fresh high-quality produce for the restaurant, produced without any chemical pesticides or petroleum-based fertilizers. Guests have the opportunity to sample the most delicious Khmer and western cuisine created mainly from ingredients grown on site or purchased from local farmers.

The farm is currently producing a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, and fruits, including our proudest crop - the world renowned Kampot pepper. The Vine employs local farmers from Chamcar Bei, who are being trained in the latest organic farming techniques for vegetable cultivation. Meanwhile, our pepper vines are grown using the traditional techniques that have made Kampot pepper world reknowned for more than 100 years. A permaculture demonstration area is being developed on the grounds behind the farm, where we plan to grow medicinal and food plants and hardwood trees within the natural forest environment.

At The Vine Retreat and Organic Farm you can relax and observe a real slice of rural life in Cambodia, or if you prefer, you can also get your hands dirty with the farmers and enjoy the satisfaction of planting and harvesting crops!
